Dream: Dog Dream 1
I have a pet dog. The dog falls victim to some sort of nuclear accident. His skin swells and all his hair falls out. Then his skin gets ridges that divide it into sections, like a turtle shell, only it is not hard like a shell - it's more like finding a pattern in cellulite. It makes me sick just to look at the dog, but society tells me I'm supposed to love him, so I pretend I still do. I can't bare to pet him, though. Our is a no-touchy sort of love.
I take him for a walk, and his skin hangs down and drags on the ground. his frame moves with much labor and sends ripples of motion through his disgusting skin. Even in the dream I can feel myself starting to vomit and swallowing to force it back down. The skin is translucent and I can see little pools of blood in sub cutaneous bruises. They slosh around as he moves.
As we walk down the street, a wall on a building changes color. A patch of green pulsates on the wall as if trying to get my attention. I close my eyes and in my mind, I can visualize what is behind that wall and it presents danger for me. I duck, and something comes through the wall and flies over my head. My dog and I walk on and similar events repeat. I soon realize that my dog has gained a supernatural ability to detect danger and warn me about it. As I think about what "my" dog can now do, I cringe. It still freaks me out that this ugly thing is *my* dog. I resolve that a dog like this is critical to survival in this post apocalyptic world of radiated mutants, and I can somehow learn to love him again. My stomach rumbles and spasms a little, and I swallow more vomit before it escapes.
