Dream: A Spider Dream

There was me, some girl, and a couple neighbors. We had unwittingly become aware of some conspiracy and somebody was chasing us. The four of us were running up a hill, with the neighbors dog following. The dog was a Shi Tzu, and the neighbors were not nearly as concerned about the dog's safety as they normally would have been.

The dog made a weird noise. It was like he was trying to bark and growl, but something started squeezing his throat halfway through. I turned and looked back. The dog was taking an aggressive posture towards something I couldn't see just over the a bump on the hill. He could make sounds again and we was growling softly. The growling got quieter and the dog moved slower until he was silent and perfectly still. I looked again to see what he was looking at, and it was a huge tarantula - about the size of a large trash can lid. The spider was crawling toward the dog, ever so slowly and maintaining perfect eye contact. It's mandibles (the leg like things on the mouth) were moving all over the place. It looked like the gestures of a orchestra conductor or a magician, but kind of slow.

I called out to the dog. I started yelling his name like I was mad at him. He didn't budge. I was incredibly scared, but I wanted to save the dog. I faced my fear and went back to the dog. The spider was about 7 feet away at this point. I was watching the dog in my peripheral vision, but I was concentrating on the spider. When I got close enough, I swung my arm and hooked the dog under his stomach and threw him back towards his owners. Once airborne, he unfroze and he was fine. I was still keeping an eye on the spider.

It was then that I realized what he was doing with the eye contact and the waving mandibles. He has hypnotized me. I couldn't move. I couldn't talk. I was so terrified and I was sure nobody else in the group would be brave enough to come help me. All I could do was wait for the spider to slowly crawl towards me.
