Dream: The Scorpion Dream

I was riding in the car. My friend Mike was in the back seat with me. (I don't have a friend named Mike, he was strictly a device of this dream) We were diving out to stay with some relatives in one of the corn states. It was hot and humid, but I was very content just thinking about the waffles I had eaten that morning for breakfast. We drove for about another half hour after the dream started, and I just stared out the window, contemplating my friendship with Mike. I was thinking about how glad I was that my parents allowed Mike to come with us (in my dream I was seventeen). But I was seriously wondering if it was such a good idea to be friends with Mike. He was potentially a bad influence on me, but I was potentially the one who could help him straighten out his life. At any rate, this was a bad time of the year to not have family, so again I thought about how glad I was that my parents let him come with us.

When we got to the relatives' house, it felt so good to get out of the car and walk around. They came rushing out to the car. So happy to see us. We all exchaged hugs, but it was kind of awkward when I intoduced Mike. I wasn't sure why. And we all went towards the house, and we started to file in. When Mike arrived at the first step, the Man whose house it was said "Wait, he ain't comin' in my house."

"What do you mean, Why not?" I asked.

"Because I know his kind, an' he ain't comin' in here."

I went with Mike and sat out in the field. My mother brought us some food at dinner time, and we had sleeping bags to sleep on when it got dark. We set up the sleeping bags under a tree and went to sleep. In the middle of the night, I woke up and had to climb the tree before I could go back to sleep (I'm not sure why, but it seemed completely logical that I had to climb the tree to go to sleep)

I got about halfway up the tree when I looked up a branch and saw a scorpion coming down. My first thought was "Scorpions live in the desert, what's a scorpion doing here?" but then I realized that I should be scared, and I climbed down as fast as I could.

I woke up Mike, "Mike! Mike!" I shouted. He slowly woke up and asked me what I wanted. "There's a Scorpion up in the tree!" I said. He nodded, and climbed the tree, half asleep. He got up to the scorpion, took off his shoe, and killed it with the heel. As he was climbing back down, a little girl named Lauren came out of the house.

"Mike, what are you doing?" she asked.

Mike was still half asleep. "Oh, there was a scorpion up there, so I just went up and killed it."

"MIKE!" she said horrified, "You can't just go around killing scorpions!" And she ran inside. There was a lot of noise in the house, and soon everyone came out with axes and shovels. They ran out, screaming, and they killed Micheal. I ran away because I was scared that they would know I asked Mike to kill it. Nobody chased me, so I found a tree, climbed it, and I was able to go to sleep.

I woke up at home. I woke up to the smell of waffles cooking. I went downstairs and Mike was sitting at the table waiting for the waffles. I quickly realized that the day was starting over, and I could save Mike's life.

The whole car trip went exactly the same. When I got to the part where The man wouldn't let Mike into the house, I asked it we could just sleep on the porch, just in case it rained. The porch was enclosed and set up like a living room. Mike moved a coffee table to the side of the room and slept on the floor. I slept on the floor behind a brown leather recliner.

In the middle of the night, I woke up and heard Lauren trying to wake up Mike. Mike finally woke up, and she told him, "Micheal, there's a tree out there with a scorpion crawling around. Will you go kill it?" And then I woke up.
